_________________________
Tickets go on sale tomorrow, May 27, for the spectacular inaugural presentation by the Indianapolis City Ballet An Evening with the Stars at the Murat Theatre in Indianapolis on Saturday, September 12, beginning at 8:00 p.m. The performance by some of the finest and most exciting dancers in the world signifies the return of professional ballet to Indianapolis and the entire region.
David Hochoy to choreograph
Indianapolis City Ballet today announced the engagement of
Dance Kaleidoscope’s artistic director David Hochoy as choreographer for a
special ballet to be performed at the inaugural presentation. John Meehan, artistic chair of the
Indianapolis City Ballet (ICB), invited two of New York City Ballet’s (NYCB)
most exciting dancers, Joaquin De Luz and Tiler Peck, to collaborate with David
to create a new work. The dancers are excited to work with Mr. Hochoy,
who will fly into New York to rehearse his ballet with them.
“I am humbled and thrilled to be invited to contribute something to the Indianapolis City Ballet's Gala. I'm very much looking forward to working with these world-class artists and excited about the prospect of a truly memorable evening of dance on September 12,” said Hochoy.
ICB’s artistic chairman John Meehan is delighted with the
opportunity to collaborate with Hochoy,
he said that “in line with the mission to integrate with the dance community of
Indianapolis, we have invited David Hochoy to present a piece on our inaugural program.
David has decided to re-choreograph his charming work FASCINATIN’ RHYTHM
on Tiler Peck and Joaquin De Luz, which is set to the piano music of George
Gershwin. He will remake it for Tiler on pointe, and its wit and
sophistication will make a perfect fit for the evening. It will be
essentially a new creation, tailor-made for the fabulous dancers on our gala Evening with the Stars. I am
thrilled that David has agreed to mount his “ballet in miniature” ballet for
our production. He is a fine choreographer, one that Indianapolis can be
proud of and one the world should hear more about.”
Robert Hesse, ICB’s volunteer chairman, said the two organizations represent the best of modern dance and ballet in the Greater Indianapolis area. “Working together is an opportunity to move dance and ballet forward and to demonstrate to the general public the value of both organizations,” he said. “This collaboration is the result of David Hochoy’s creative and generous spirit and of almost two years of planning and communications that involved many members of the dance community. It defines a spirit of collaboration that augurs well for the future of dance, and ballet, in Indiana.”
