ICB Goals
Following a comprehensive feasibility and planning process, Indianapolis City Ballet plans to embark on a careful, yet ambitious, program to rebuild a professional ballet presence in Indianapolis. The purpose is not purely to form a company but rather to investigate the community’s interest in and capability to support various levels of high-quality ballet development, whether this means a company, part-time company, presenting companies, or a combination of each. And so, on September 12, 2009, a continuation of the exploratory process will add our first performance:
Step One:
A Gala Performance will feature virtuosi performers of varied ballet styles and blend classical and contemporary ballet repertoire. The event will include full-fledged and pilot programs that will be critical to the future of any ballet effort including:
- Outreach to youth and adults through in-school, social, professional and other affiliations;
- Developing education materials and programs for a wide-range of age groups and work with a pilot group of school students on integrating ballet and the performing arts into the school curriculum;
- Building audience awareness through public relations and advertising;
- Engaging the philanthropic base needed for ongoing operations;
- Working with and supporting dance schools in the greater Indianapolis area as well as other performing and fines arts institutions; and
- Conducting a marketing and operations evaluation following the first performance.
Step Two:
An evaluation process is a vital tool in planning next steps. Planning documents will be compiled and shared with partners and stake-holders, and action plans will be developed. Determinations will be made as to the strategic initiatives needed to assure that ballet has a solid ongoing home in Indianapolis.
Long-term Goals:
Among the long-term goals of the Indianapolis City Ballet are:
- To Create The Indianapolis City Ballet – as a chamber-sized contemporary ballet company with seasonal performances that would ultimately form a full-time company.
- To Present Major International Ballet Companies - Allowing people in Indianapolis to see the great works being presented by major companies around the world.
- To Develop an Indianapolis International Dance Competition - that draws pre-professional dancers from around the world and works with the area dance schools and provides an economic boost for the City.
- To Assist and Strengthen the Dance Programs in the city and bring them to greater national prominence - providing a richer dance scene and opportunities for collaboration through performance and scholarships.
- To Engage the Services and Cooperation of the Cultural Organizations in the City for Mutual Benefit - working with the fine and performing arts companies and individuals in Indiana as a partner in artistic collaboration.
